2007 French presidential elections

The 2007 French presidential elections are to elect a president of France for a five-year term. The first round of voting took place on Sunday, April 22, 2007.

The two candidates who qualified for the second turn of the election were Nicolas Sarkozy and Ségolène Royal.

Exit polls showed Sarkozy with 30 percent followed by Royal with 26 percent. Since no candidate obtained an absolute majority, a second round between the two leading candidates took place on Sunday, May 6, 2007. In the second round French voters chose Nicolas Sarkozy by a margin of 53.06% to 46.94% over Ségolène Royal.
