Alice in Chains is a popular and influential
rock band that formed in
Seattle,
Washington, in 1987. Unlike other
grunge bands they owed more to its classic rock and heavy metal roots. They spawned hit singles such as "Rooster" and "No Excuses". Lead singer Layne Staley died in 2002 of a
heroin overdose.
