1. In your opinion, the 2008 election that concluded on Tuesday is most similar to which election in history, and why? Surprisingly enough, it reminds me of the very first presidential election, and that was of George Washington. In a strange way, they both are times of firsts. George washington was the first president ever, Barak Obama is the first African president ever, Sarah Palin would have been the first woman vice president, and so on.

That's good, I enjoyed your creative answer!

2. Imperialism: a good or bad thing? Okay, but I'm glad we stopped expanding when we did. Once we reached the Pacific, we also gained Alaska, and Hawaii. Puerto Rico is also or territory, though it's not a state. If we had kept going, who knows? Mexico could have been ours, as well as Canada. There's no telling what we might have done.

Insightful again!

3. Your thoughts on the progressive movement, please. I think it's good that it promoted a better government, and woman got the right to vote.

But really there's not a whole lot to say about it. In my opinion, it's just a period of time, like all the others, but this one may have had a few more twists.

You could be a bit more substantive here. (Minus 1).

4. Please explain the cartoon in the Minnesota Tribune, having the caption at top, "WHAT WILL HE DO!" and the caption at the bottom, "The eyes of the world are upon him." Include your description of the point of view of the cartoonist. I think it's a question of what we, having won the spanish american war, would do with the people of the Philippines. Would we let them go free, or would we become a colonial power in place of spain? And I think the view point of the cartoonist is to become a colonial power over the people. In the cartoon its shows a man (probably McKinley) hold a boy from the Philippines over a cliff. I think maybe the cartoonist was in favor of the idea that we would be in power over theses people.

Excellent! The cartoonist was particularly against returning the Philippines to Spain.
