The Arctic is the large region of the Earth of permanent ice at the North Pole; on the globe, it lies opposite the southern icy region, which is known as the Antarctic.

The Arctic Circle is an imaginary line located at 66ยบ, 30'N latitude that serves as a guide to defining the southernmost part of the Arctic. The climate within the Circle is extremely cold, and much of the area is usually covered with ice.
