Atheism and pornography

One of the causes of atheism is a hedonism. See: Causes of atheism and Atheism and hedonism.

The infamous pornographers Hugh Hefner and Larry Flynt are both atheists.[3][4][5]

In 2003, Arena magazine magazine listed Flynt as #1 on the "50 Powerful People in Porn" list.[6] Flynt is paralyzed from the waist down due to injuries sustained from a 1978 assassination attempt by the serial killer Joseph Paul Franklin.[7][8]

A significant portion of the atheist community has misogynist beliefs and attitudes (see: Atheism and women and Atheism and rape and Elevatorgate).

Salon.com, a far-left progressive fake news site which promotes secularism and attacks Christianity, is pro-pornography.[9]

Atheistic Denmark and child pornography[edit]

Denmark is the third most atheistic country in the world and the website adherents.com reports that 43 - 80% of Danes are agnostics/atheists/non-believers in God.[10] The child pornography material produced in Denmark (and Holland) still constitutes the largest part of child pornography that is currently available, having been transferred into digital format and uploaded onto the internet.[11]

In 2005, Denmark was ranked the third most atheistic country in the world and the website adherents.com reported that in 2005 43 - 80% of Danes are agnostics/atheists/non-believers in God.[12] Denmark has the highest rate of belief in evolution in the Western World.[13]

The 2003 book entitled Overcoming Violence Against Women and Girls: The International Campaign to Eradicate a Worldwide Problem written by authors Rahel Nardos; Mary K. Radpour; William S. Hatcher and Michael L. Penn, declared:

“ The largest source of commercial child pornography is Denmark. Denmark became the world's leading producer of child pornography when, in 1969, it removed all restrictions on the production and sale of any type of pornographic material. "The result," notes Tim Tate, "was a short-lived explosion in adult pornography, and the birth of commercial child pornography. In his work, Tate links the global spread of child pornography to two men: Willy Strauss, founder of Bambina Sex, the world's first child-pornography magazine, founded in 1971; and Peter Theander, founder of Colour Climax Corporation and the producer of a short, professionally made pornographic film series entitled Lolita. Lolita depicts the sexual abuse of prepubescent boys and girls. Although Danish law at the time rendered the work of Strauss and Theander legal, by 1979 when Denmark finally banned the production and sale of child pornography it had already become such a financial success on the international market that it has proven to be nearly impossible to bring its spread under control.[14] ”

Suzanne Ost, in her 2009 book Child Pornography and Sexual Grooming: Legal and Societal Responses published by Cambridge University Press, wrote about the child pornography created by Denmark/Holland during this period:

“ Taylor and Quayle note that the material produced during this period still constitutes the largest part of child pornography that is currently available, having been transferred into digital format and uploaded onto the internet.[15] ”

Barna Group study and views of atheists on pornography[edit]

The Barna Group found that atheists and agnostics in America were more likely, than theists in America, to look upon the following behaviors as morally acceptable: pornography; obscene sexual behavior; illegal drug use; excessive drinking; sexual relationships outside of marriage; abortion; cohabitating with someone of opposite sex outside of marriage; obscene language; gambling; and engaging in homosexuality/bisexuality.[16]

The Netherlands and the global spread of bestiality pornography[edit]

A 2007 survey found that distributors in the Netherlands were responsible for some 80 percent of bestiality videos worldwide.[17]

In 2005, the Netherlands was ranked the 13th most atheistic country in the world and the website adherents.com reported that in 2005 39 - 44%% of the Dutch are agnostics/atheists/non-believers in God.[18] The Netherlands also has the 11th highest rate of belief in evolution as far as Western World nations (see: Evolutionary belief and bestiality).[19]

In February 2010, the UK news website Metro reported:

“ Given the illicit nature of the product, precise figures on animal pornography video sales are difficult to find, but the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, in a 2007 survey, found that distributors in the Netherlands were responsible for some 80 percent of bestiality videos worldwide.[20] ”

In 2010, the Netherlands banned bestiality.[21]

On January 1, 2015, The Telegraph reported concerning the New Atheist Richard Dawkins:

On Saturday morning, asked on his Twitter account why we don’t send lots of "erotic videos" to theocracies, adding that it should be “loving, gentle, woman-respecting” (I guess this involves the pizza delivery boy calling the next day). University of Texas at San Antonio atheist group handed out hardcore pornography on campus[edit]

On April 3, 2012, the Houston Chronicle reported: "This week, atheist students at the University of Texas at San Antonio are holding their annual “Smut for Smut” campaign, in which they offer to exchange holy texts for hardcore porn..."[23]

RationalWiki.org web visitor interest in pornography[edit]

RationalWiki.org is a politically left leaning website that skews towards atheism/agnosticism in terms of its worldview.

RationalWiki tries to portray itself as a thinking person's wiki where the editors carefully analyze various matters.

But the SimilarWeb.com data shows a significant portion of RationalWiki's web audience is interested in "adult" material as can be seen by the "adult" audience interests in the above graphic.

Many feminists contend that pornography exploits women.[24] RationalWiki is a pro-feminism website.[25]

Trustworthiness of websites linking to RationalWiki[edit]

According to the leading search engine optimization website Search Engine Land: "Citation Flow is a number of predicting how influential a URL might be based on how many sites link to it. Trust Flow is a number predicting how trustworthy a page is based on how trustworthy sites tend to link to trustworthy neighbors."[26]

As far as a website's domain, high authority and trustworthy websites commonly have their trustflow metric higher than their citation flow metric. As can been above, RationalWiki has the exact opposite. Perhaps its web visitors who visit adult websites link to RationalWiki from low quality websites that are untrusted.
