Bambi is a character from a novel titled Bambi, a Life in the Woods (originally published as Bambi. Eine Lebensgeschichte aus dem Walde), written by Austrian author Felix Salten in 1923. Bambi is a male roe deer.

Walt Disney adapted the novel in an animated movie, named after the character, that was released in 1942. The storyline follows Bambi from the time of his birth to the birth of his fawns. The Disney film also changes his species from a roe deer to a white-tailed deer.
