A belief system is a set of strongly held convictions. If the beliefs focus on God, then it is a religion.

Common undisputed examples of belief systems (other than religions) include the following:

• Buddhism
• Secular humanism

More controversial examples of belief systems include:

• communism
• feminism
• the Mathematical Universe Hypothesis^[1]
• existentialism
• the ideology of homosexuality

A more precise term for a belief system may be "worship system."
