The House of Bourbon was the ruling house of France during two periods:
- From the reign of King Henry IV (crowned 1595, but had been in control of much of the country for many years) to the disastrous reign of Louis XVI (beheaded in 1793 during the French Revolution.)
- During what is known as the "Bourbon Restoration" from the downfall of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1814, then 1815, (Louis XVIII) to the abdication of Louis-Philippe during the Revolution of 1848 and the forming of the "Second Republic".
