The British Psychological Society is an organization devoted to the study of psychology based in Leicester, United Kingdom. It was founded in 1901 and was initially called "The Psychological Society" but later became known as the "British Psychological Society". It has a number of divisions, devoted to workers in a particular field of psychology, such as Health Psychology. In addition, it has a number of sections which may be regarded as groups devoted to special interests within psychology, such as the Cognitive Section, the Social Section, the Developmental Section and the Transpersonal Section. Every month, it publishes its magazine "The Psychologist" which is posted to members. It holds an annual conference each year, and the sections hold their annual conferences.
