Cable may refer to a conduit for the passage of data, or more generally to the broadcast medium by which television shows are sent to subscribing customers through RCA coaxial cables. "Cable TV," in this fashion, is one of the more popular forms of television dissemination, and is in competition with satellite-based television.

By June 2009, digital television broadcasts will completely replace analog broadcast television, making cable TV the oldest functioning broadcasting medium.

Cable as "Wire"[edit]

The term cable is also used to mean a bundle of wire strands, e.g. 'multistranded wire' - which is more correctly called a cable in electricity or a wire rope in mechanics.
