Byzantine Empire

From Conservapedia - Reading time: 1 min

The Byzantine Empire was the direct legal continuation of the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire was permanently divided in two between Emperor Theodosius's two sons in 395 A.D. and was recognized as the sole Roman Empire after the western half fell in 480 A.D. It lasted a thousand more years with its capital Constantinople being captured in 1453.
