Chandra Levy (Cleveland, April 14, 1977 – Washington, D.C., 2001) was a former U.S. government intern who mysteriously disappeared on May 1, 2001. The remains of Levy were found on May 22, 2002, in a wooded area in Washington's D.C.'s Rock Creek Park.
The killing of 24-year-old Chandra Levy had been one of the U.S. capital's most sensational unsolved crimes. At first, it received worldwide attention, but interest faded after the September 11, 2001, attacks and after it became a cold case. [1]
Gary Condit, a former Democrat congressman from California came under scrutiny amid the media storm that followed Levy's disappearance. He was a suspect because he had an affair with her. Police questioned him but he was not charged with any crime.
In 2010, Ingmar Guandique, 27, a Salvadorean illegal immigrant was convicted of her murder. His conviction was quashed and he is awaiting deportation.
