Christianity in South America

From Conservapedia - Reading time: 1 min

Christianity was brought to South America (or Latin America) by Spanish and Portuguese Christian explorers. Sponsored by King Ferdinand V and Queen Isabella (the Catholic Monarchs), they came to the Americas just a few months after the Spanish reconquest of Spain and Portugal from the Muslim Moors of North Africa, completed in 1492, a few months before Columbus' discovery of America. "The Vatican granted to Spain and Portugal the patronato real de las Indias, which gave their sovereigns the right to appoint all bishops within their territories, sealing the bond between the Church and Crown."
