The Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) is a communist party in Russia. It is one of the four major parties in the country. The party is considered the successor of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. CPRF was formed in February 1993[1] and registered on March 24, 1993.[2] Its leader is Gennadiy Zyuganov.[1]
The ideology of the CPRF is believed to be a mixture of old and new ideas.[1] The party supports the restoration of the former Soviet Union on a "voluntary basis" and the adoption of a new Constitution by means of referendum.[1] It opposes the democratic and economic changes introduced in Russia following the dissolution of the Soviet Union.[3]
