The Continental Association was a trade embargo implemented by the Continental Congress in 1774 against Britain with the goal of increasing pressure to address colonial grievances. One main focus was the Intolerable Acts, which the colonists sought to repeal.

Among other things, the Association contained a clause banning all trade with ships transporting slaves.^[1]
