Cyber is a prefex which describes an object, person, or idea as a part of the computer and information age. This prefix has been applied to a number of things, including cybernetics, cyberspace, cyberterrorism, Cyberwarfare, and Cyberpunk.[1][2][3][4]

History[edit]

This prefix was derived from the Greek word "kybernetes," which means "governor" or "steersman." Norbert Wiener (1894-1964) and his colleagues are credited with coining the term for use in the word cybernetics.[5] This was popularized in Wiener's 1948 book, Cybernetics or Control and Communication in the Animal and the Machine.[6]
