The Cyclopes (singular: Cyclops) are members of a race of giants in Greek mythology with a single eye in the middle of their forehead, like monsters. The most famous of these was Polyphemus, descendant of Poseidon from Homer's Odyssey.

Others that are mentioned in the works of Greek mythology are Brontes, Steropes, and Arges, who were offspring of Gaia and Uranus. They were skilled blacksmiths, serving the Olympian gods and created Zeus' thunderbolts, Poseidon's trident, and Hades' Helmet of Darkness, which Perseus would later use in his on his quest to kill Medusa. The Greeks also credited them with building the massive fortifications at Tiryns and Mycenae in the Peloponnese.^[1]
