David Bowie (1947-2016) was a rock musician from the United Kingdom, who achieved prominence in the 1970s and has sustained a reasonably high level of success up to the present day. He is noted for his ability to constantly surprise with each new album - his early work owed something to the progressive rock movement, whilst albums such as Low acknowledged the embryonic electronica movement as represented by Kraftwerk and Brian Eno. Even later in his career he has experimented with new musical forms, such as drum and bass on his Earthling album in the mid-1990s.
