Demosthenes (Greek general)

Demosthenes was the most trusted military general for Athens, leading armies in battle from 426 B.C. during the Second Peloponnesian War until the Athenian disaster in the war against Syracuse in 413 B.C. After the Athenians were defeated in Syracuse and their army captured, Demosthenes and the other Athenian general Nicias, who had also fought during the same time period, were executed.
