FIRST is a non-profit organization that encourages technological achievement by teenagers in both public schools, private schools and homeschooling. Founded by the inventor and entrepreneur Dean Kamen, it holds perhaps the largest engineering competition in the world.

Dean Kamen describes his goal for FIRST as follows:^[1]

"To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes."
