Frivolous Political Party

From Conservapedia - Reading time: 1 min

A frivolous party is a political party which has been created for the purposes of entertainment or political satire.[1] These parties may or may not have a political agenda. Some examples of joke parties include the McGillicuddy Serious Party and Bill and Ben Party in New Zealand, the Rhinoceros Party and its successor, all in Canada, the Donald Duck Party in Sweden, the Die PARTEI party in Germany, Official Monster Raving Loony Party in the United Kingdom, the Beer Lovers' Party in several eastern European countries, the NEE Party in Belgium,[2] the Surprise Party of the United States and Besti flokkurinn in Iceland.

Agendas[edit]

Frivolous parties promote ridiculous policies to enact social change. For example, in the 2008 presidential election a group of political activists created the Obama for Democratic Socialism Party which criticized Obama's socialist policies.[3] Another mock political party, the Obama for Baby Killing Party, obviously satirizing Obama's pro-death stance.[4] Other parties, however, have more serious goals, perhaps aiming to counteract a "depressing" or "angry" mood in politics.
