Hector was the son of King Priam, and supreme commander of the Trojan forces during the Trojan War. He was killed by Achilles. The Iliad ends with the account of his funeral.

His wife was Andromache, and their infant son was Astyanax.

Hector is often held up as an icon of nobility and honorable conduct, apart from in the word "hectoring" which comes from a different source.
