Hetman

Hetman was the title of the military commanders of the Ukrainian Kozaks. The term was adopted from the Polish Commonwealth. After the 1648 uprising, the Hetman was the head of the Ukrainian Kozak state. This position was the military leader and the legislator. The Hetman's symbol of power was the bulawa. The position was abolished by Catherine the Great in 1764.
