Homework Ten Answers - Student Six

From Conservapedia - Reading time: 3 min

1. Pick a question that you missed on the midterm exam, and describe several different ways that you could have figured out the correct answer instead.

I got the question about the most conservative president incorrect, if I had just thought about it for a few minutes I would have realized that I had gotten the wrong James. I had narrowed it down to those last two and was too worried about finishing the exam that I made a hasty decision.

Good analysis.

2. Write about any aspect related to World War 1, such as how the United States got involved, or how it ended.

I find it interesting the way that the U.S actually attempted to stay out of this war for a while. I think we should try this more often, and not jump at every single war opportunity we see, in attempts to “help” other countries. Anyways, our idea of staying neutral failed and we ended up giving in due mainly to the amount of attacks launched on German ships by the British, which actually contained many American passengers. The point is though, that staying neutral for a while minimized the destruction on American soil.

Excellent point about the advantages of staying out of foreign conflicts, at least to the extent possible.

3. Please explain your view of the scopes trial.

Terrifically argued on Bryans part, and while I might not agree with his views, I believe that something can definitely be said for his clever argument. But after such a defeat I don’t know why he simply dropped the case, this makes no sense to me.

Don't follow your answer here. Bryan won the case, although biased media reports (and perhaps history books too) try to make it look like Bryan lost the case. Tennessee's law at issue then remained on the books for about another half century.

4. Who was the most influential person of the time period in this lecture? Explain.

I hate saying this, but it was probably (and very unfortunately) Charles Darwin. I don’t understand how a “religion” created only a little over a little over one hundred years ago is considered in schools as more reliable than a religion that’s been preached for literally thousands of years. Anyways though this is the reason I consider him to be so influential. Also it is him, and his foundations, that science today is based off of nowadays. And it’s also what almost every school is teaching today.

Interesting choice. It's good to recognize the influence of people on the other side. Full credit.

5. Pick any debate or discussion topic or issue in this lecture, and answer it.

Debate: Should government be able to interfere with the free enterprise by establishing maximum working hours for men?

No. I believe that the company should make the decision itself whether or not they will pay people the same if they work overtime. I don’t think that the government should interfere with this issue.

Well-reasoned answer.

H1 I don’t think it was wise to go against our own amendment we created. And I don’t know how much it really helped in our avoiding World War 1. We still ended up fighting, didn’t we?

Explain a bit more. (Minus 1).

H3 In the start of the start of the lecture we had President Teddy Roosevelt, who was a progressive. He was one of the tougher presidents, (aside from Andrew Jackson) and was simple, yet very smart. Then we had William Howard Taft, a more conservative president, who opposed higher tariffs exercised executive restraint. And then there was also Woodrow Wilson, who also was a progressive and dedicated most of his time in office to making it safe for democracy.

Good summary. Wilson was trying to make the world safe for democracy, but many would doubt whether he did so, and whether that goal is even possible. (Note your repetition of "in the start of the start ...")

H5 I think it definitely contributed, it wasn’t the sole reason this war was so horrific, but we can definitely thank Charles Darwin for a lot of the innocent blood shed during this time period.

Good answer, with its sarcasm!
