The Indiana Pacers are a professional basketball team based in Indianapolis, Indiana. They began play in the NBA during the 1976-1977 season, as one of four teams to transition from the now-defunct American Basketball Association, or ABA. Prior to joining the NBA, they had won three championships in the ABA. Unfortunately for Pacers fans, their success didn't translate to the new league, and the team struggled to achieve only one winning season in the first thirteen years. The team began to surge in the 1990s, led by Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown and All-Star Reggie Miller. During that decade, the team reached the Conference Finals five times, won two division titles, and reached the NBA Finals in 2000.
The team played at the Indiana State Fair Coliseum for most of their ABA years, from 1967-1974. The team then moved to Market Square Arena, and played there from 1974 until its demolition in 1999. The Pacers currently play at the Conseco Fieldhouse.
