James Maury "Jim" Henson (September 24, 1936-May 16, 1990) was an American artist, cartoonist, filmmaker, inventor, and puppeteer, who was best known for being the maker of Sesame Street and The Muppets. He was from Greenville, Mississippi, of German descent, and raised as a Christian Scientist. He also labeled himself as a member of the Democratic Party.
