Kaifeng is a city in China, and was the capital of China for much of the Silk Trade, though Jews lived in Kaifeng before the Silk Trade. During the time of the Silk Trade, Kaifeng had a large Jewish population, and is believed to be the earliest place in China to be settled by Jews. Over time the Jewish population of Kaifeng assimilated and intermarried. Despite this, some people can still trace their decent from the Kaifeng Jews. Some of these people have recently returned to Judaism.

According to a stone monument in Kaifeng, Israelites already came to Kaifeng in 231 BC^[1]
