Karbala is a city in Southern, Iraq. It has a population of 619,000 It is a holy city to Shia Islam. That is where the Battle of Karbala took place ( not to be confused with the Battle of Karbala in the Invasion of Iraq). It is believed that Hussian the grandson of Muhammad fought Yazeed a corrupt and tyrannical ruler in battle. 1 That is where the martyrdom of Hussian took place and where he is buried. Many Shia Muslims around the world travel to the city of Karbala, Iraq to visit the shrine of Hussein. Karbala is generally a very safer City in Iraq because they have more of a security presence there to protect the pilgrims.
