A Kushite is someone descended from Ham, one of the sons of Noah. Kush was the grandson of Noah. The word is sometimes associated with the peoples in the Horn of Africa. Kush, however, is an ancient country in the middle Nile Valley. Pharao Thutmosis I is known to have waged war against it around 1525 b.C.[1]
The prophet Moses was married to a Kushite woman:
Numbers (Am. St.) 12:1 tells us: Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman he had married (for he had married an Ethiopian woman).
Ethiopian need not be related to the region of modern Ethiopia. The Greek historian Herodotus (who lived in the 5th century b.C.) used the word for the peoples immediately South of ancient Egypt [2]
