Lead is a chemical element with the atomic number of 82. It is a dense metal which has been used for pipes, hence its symbol 'Pb', short for the Latin 'plumbum', or pipe. Lead is also used in rechargeable batteries.

Lead is highly toxic and its presence in old paint has been highly dangerous for unknowing children, who are attracted to its taste and eat the paint, then suffer from mental and physical deformities.
