The Legion of Christ, officially Legionaries of Christ, abbreviated LC, is a Catholic Religious Order. It's goal is to engage laypeople and it is known as fiercely loyal to the Pope.
The Legion of Christ was founded as the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart and Our Lady of Sorrows by Fr. Marcel in 1941. Marcel was later discovered to be a serial abuser and was sacked from his position in 2008. Following that, the Legion went through a series of reforms, laicizing dozens of Marcel loyalists. The reform process finished in 2019, and while some insist that the Legion is still corrupt, those people are now mostly regulated to fringe corners of the internet.
In 2018, Br. Anthony Freeman LC, a Legionary religious who was noted for his skill in spreading the Gospel to Millennials, died at age 29. He was declared a Servant of God, making him the first Legion of Christ member on the path to Sainthood.
In 2022, the Legionaries ordained 37 new priests. This was widely shared on Catholic subreddits, where people pointed out that the Jesuits, traditionally a very strong order, had only ordained 25.
