Leipzig is the biggest city in the German Bundesland (state) of Saxony, with 509,000 inhabitants.

The composers Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and Robert Schumann all worked in Leipzig, and nowadays, the famous Thomanerchor and the Gewandhausorchester are located here.

The University of Leipzig, founded in 1409, is the third oldest university in Germany.
