"And when he had formed an agreement with the workmen to pay them a silver coin a day, he sent them into his vineyard. Silver coin is easily understood, shilling is almost as dated as denarius. (By "shilling" is meant the Roman denarius, worth ten assaria, four sesterces, or forty quadrants.)
3 And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, "And he went out three hours later, and saw others standing without work in the public square, This is the αγορα or agora, which served as marketplace and place of legal transactions.

4 And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. The phrase and they went their way comes from the first words of the next verse οἱ δὲ ἀπῆλθον. and they went.

At issue is not the principle of "equal pay for comparable worth," but that an employer has the absolute right to pay whatever wage he wishes to pay, so long as he honors his agreements without discrimination. In the same way, God has the absolute right to reward those of us who serve Him exactly as He wishes, and He will always reliably honor the agreements He makes.
16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen. "So the last will be first, and the first last." The Byzantine manuscripts add, "For many are called, but few chosen." But it is obvious that is an unauthorized subsequent interpolation, once the mathematical logic of this parable is realized.
17 And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them, And Jesus, while going up to Jerusalem, took the Twelve aside on the road for a private consultation. He said to them, Jerusalem is an at elevation of 800 meters, the highest of any city; hence the phrase "going up." The most reliable manuscripts speak only of "the Twelve," because that they are the Twelve Apostles is well understood.
18 Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man will be betrayed to the leading priests and to the scribes, and they will condemn Him to death,

And He said to them, "You will certainly drink from My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with. But to sit on My right hand, or on My left, is not for Me to grant, but it will be granted to them for whom it is prepared by My Father."
24 And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren. And when the other ten heard it, they were indignant toward the two brothers.
25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. 10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? And when he had entered Jerusalem, everyone in the city was moved, and said, "Who is This?"

He does make the point that commercial activity in the Temple can never be proper. It was also the worst example of hypocrisy that He had yet encountered: the Pharisees, with all their regulations, had allowed this crass commercialism to go on in the Temple itself, and had done nothing about it.

18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? But Jesus knew exactly the sort of wicked people He was dealing with. So He said, "Why are you always testing Me, you hypocrites?
19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. "Show me the coin that you use to pay the census tax." And they brought him a Roman shilling. Specifically, the denarius, or dinar, a typical day's wages.

Angels are a company, not a race.
31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, "But while we're on the subject of the resurrection of the dead: haven't you read what God Himself said? He said,

After the rapture of the Church, God will operate in the World as He did during the Jewish time period with large scale supernatural events such as angels preaching the Gospel and Moses and Elijah style miracles performed by the Two Witnesses Revelation 11:1-12.

The Greek word φεγγος or phengos refers to reflected light, not the primary light from a body like the sun.

The "falling stars" will likely be meteors. In those days, the word star stood for any pinpoint-like object in the sky, and not exclusively the bodies of hydrogen and helium known to astronomy by that name.

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. The talent was the weight of any precious metal that a man could carry on his back.

The ritual tearing of clothes (specifically, ripping one's robe down the middle) was a sign of deep mourning or extreme indignation. But Caiaphas broke the regulations on his conduct by doing this.
66 What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death. "How say you?" In answer, they voted "Guilty and sentenced to death." This was a taking of a verdict.

The Sanhedrin, being merely an advisory body and subject to Roman law, had no authority to order anyone executed.
2 And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor. And they bound Him, led Him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor. In short, the Sanhedrin sought a Roman warrant for Christ's execution, and they could get it only from the governor of Judea Province.
3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, Then Judas, who had betrayed Him, when he saw that He had been convicted, had a change of mind, and brought the thirty pieces of silver back to the leading priests and elders,
4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. and told them, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." The Greek word απαγχομαι or apagchomai is sometimes translated "I kill myself by hanging." However, it is actually the middle-voice form of απαγω which actually means "I put someone to death"—by any means. Matthew does not actually give any greater detail than this about how Judas died, but Luke does, in Acts 1 .
6 And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. And the leading priests took the silver pieces, and said, "We can't put this into the treasury; this is blood money."

The Greek words used literally do mean "a potter's field" and carries the same connotation as that English phrase carries today. "Aliens" is a better translation of ξένοις than "strangers" or "foreigners". Further investigation of what the potter's field really was used for might even justify "illegal aliens."

11 And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest. And Jesus stood before the governor. The governor asked Him, "Are you the King of the Jews?"

Presumably Pilate had never seen anything like this in his career in public life, nor heard any fellow Senator tell a similar tale from his days as a magistrate in the provinces.
15 Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would. Now at the festival the governor was accustomed to release to the people a prisoner, whomever they wanted released.
16 And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas. And at the time they held a notable prisoner, named Barabbas. Some manuscripts actually preface the name "Barabbas" with "Jesus", which doesn't make much sense.

The Greek word βημα was the word used for "judgment seat." To be more specific, this was the classic semicircular and backless curule chair on which Roman magistrates sat when they held court.
20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. But the leading priests and elders had persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

When Pilate realized that he could not win, and indeed risked having a riot on his hands, he took water, and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this man's blood; this is your responsibility!" 25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. Then all the people shouted in answer, "Let His blood be on us, and on our children!"

"casting lots" is archaic today, when the term "gambling" is far more familiar. This verse helps illustrate the demonic nature of gambling, and how un-Christ-like gambling is. The essential point is the devotion to chance as a force that triumphs temporarily over good here.
