Mental health screening is a program to compel public school students to undergo psychiatric evaluations and for a percentage of them to be diagnosed with mental conditions requiring medication. At least ten states have medication algorithm projects for children, and "[i]n 2004, atypical antipsychotics were the fourth-highest-grossing class of drugs in the United States, with sales totaling $8.8 billion—$2.4 billion of which was paid for by state Medicaid funds."^[1]
