'Nirvana' is the Sanskrit term that refers to the ultimate goal of the Theravada or Hinayana tradition of Buddhism. Nirvana (Pali: nibbana) is attained through strict morality of the Five Precepts combined with meditation that directly understands or realizes the selflessness or no self of "the self" and of persons. This Buddhist path (yana or marga in Sanskrit) is intimately connected with the Four Noble Truths also hence with eliminating all selfish desire-craving and the three poisons in the five aggregates and therefore ending one's suffering and reaching Nirvana.
