Nursery rhymes are songs or poems taught to children when they are young. The name comes from the tendency to teach these rhymes in nurseries. They often teach children moral lessons as well as helping to build vocabulary and teach social norms.
Similarly to fairy tales, many nursery rhymes have their origins in medieval Europe. Famous nursery rhymes include Humpty Dumpty, Jack and Jill, Jack Be Nimble, Patty Cake, Peter Piper, Pop Goes the Weasel, and many others.
