An organic compound is any compound that contains the element carbon covalently bonded to another element. There is a small group of inorganic carbon-containing compounds that includes the carbides, carbonates, and cyanide.^[1] The formation of the natural products such as sugars, fats, proteins or nucleic acids are based on the binding ability of the carbon atom. The study of these compounds is called organic chemistry.
