Pali is an ancient Indo-Iranian language of Northern India, now extinct as a regular spoken language but still used today by followers of the Theravada school of Buddhism. It is a Prakrit, one of the common spoken and written languages of ancient India. Being that, it was written with a variety of scripts, such as the Devanagari and Tamil scripts.

The body of Pali writings of the discourses and doctrines of the Buddha and his followers is called the Pali Canon, and it is written in the script of whatever country it is used in (i.e., Thai script in Thailand, Khmer script in Cambodia, etc.)
