Peshmerga is a Kurdish army that fight in Iraq for an independent Kurdish state. During the Operation Iraqi Freedom Peshmerga fought alongside the U.S. troops. Today it fights the terror organization Islamic State and the governments of Turkish and Iran.

Peshmerga is sending all-female units to fight IS.^[1]
