Premiership

From Conservapedia - Reading time: 1 min

The Barclays Premiership is the most prestigious of the English Football Leagues. It contains twenty teams, and after each season the bottom three are relegated and three teams from the next League (the Championship) are promoted.

It operates on a points-based system where a win counts as 3 points, a draw as 1 point and a loss as 0 points. The team with the most points at the end of the season wins; the most recent winners were Chelsea F.C.. In the event of a draw on points, goal difference is used to decide the winner.

The Premiership has attracted criticism because the vast majority of the teams stand little chance of winning; the only clubs with a realistic chance of success are Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool, known as the 'Big Five'.
