Albert, Prince Consort of Great Britain and Ireland (August 26, 1819 - December 14, 1861), usually called Prince Albert, was the husband of Queen Victoria.
Born as Francis Albert Augustus Charles Emmanuel, Prince of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (German: Prinz Franz Albrecht August Karl Emanuel von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha), the young queen proposed to him on October 15, 1839. The two first cousins were married on February 10, 1840.
He favored the North in the American Civil War and helped reduce tensions.
