Etymology from India[edit]

The etymology of the word pundit comes the original ancient Sanskrit word "Paṇḍita" used in India at least since 200 B.C. to refer to a very learned man or scholar in the realm of Indian philosophy. An example is Sakya Pandita of Tibet.
