Randall Jerome Gay Jr. is a National Football League cornerback for the New Orleans Saints. He was born on May 5, 1982 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Randall is "5-11" (tall) and weighs 190 pounds.
NFL career[edit]
Randall entered the NFL as an undrafted, unrestricted free agent in 2004. He was invited by the New England Patriots to compete for a roster spot on the team in training camp and he surprisingly beat out several other players (including one 2004 Patriots draft pick) for a roster spot. Although he was expected to be a backup coming into the season, injures to Patriots starters forced Randall into starting 9 games at either cornerback and safety in the 2004 regular season. In week four of the NFL season in a game vs the Miami Dolphins he made his first career NFL interception. Two weeks later he made his first NFL start (at safety). On week twelve of the regular season in a game vs the Cleveland Browns, he had his first NFL touchdown when he returned a fumble 41 yards for a score... In total, in 2004, he started 9 and played in 15 games with the Patriots. He had 34 total tackles, 2 interceptions and 2 fumble recovery's. In the 2004 playoffs, Randall started all three playoff contests for the Patriots and made a team leading 18 tackles.
The next season, 2005, Randall managed to only play in 5 games (1 start) before he suffered an ankle injury and was put on the Patriots injury reserve list for the rest of the season.[1] The next year (2006) he once again was put on the injury reserve and missed the entire season due to a hamstring injury.
