A rant is a method of trying to get one's point across via a violent, excessive, pompous, and often long and incoherent statement of speech or text. A ranting person is often blinded by belief that everything they are saying is true, and thus doesn't even realize how illogical or aggressive their rant is. People resort to ranting when they realize that they will fail to get their point across using civil debate, because they don't have any real arguments to use.
