Renegade is a rock song by the band Styx, from their 1979 album Pieces of Eight.
The song is a first-person narrative of an outlaw, captured for a bounty, who is about to be executed for his criminal activities. The execution will be by hanging, as the outlaw laments repeatedly, "Hangman is coming down from the gallows and I don't have very long."
Though it only reached #16 on the charts, the song (notable for its slow a capella opening followed by a fast tempo beat) is a staple on classic rock radio, and is usually the last song that Styx plays in concert. It has become an anthem of the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers as it is played between the third and fourth quarter of their home games.
