Robert Crumb (born 1943) is a famous cartoonist most prominently known for single-handedly spearheading the "underground" comics movement in the 1960s. Starting off as a greeting card artist in Ohio, Crumb moved to San Francisco on an impulse. Crumb's work was misanthropic, subversive, and sexually obsessed. His work first premiered in the 1968 Zap Comics. In the 1970s Crumb had been branded with several obscenity charges and encountered trouble with the IRS. He moved to France with his second wife, and their daughter in the early 1990s, where he resides today.
