The San Diego Padres are a Major League Baseball team in the National League West Division. The San Diego Padres are based in San Diego, California.

The team plays in Petco Park (naming rights held by the San Diego based pet supply chain). The park has two interesting features:

  • The left field "foul pole" is actually the corner of the historic Western Metal Supply Company building: the original plan was to demolish the building, but as it is a National Historic Landmark it could not be torn down without considerable controversy, so the park was redesigned around the building.
  • Petco and PETA have had a running feud over Petco's animal sales: after two unsuccessful attempts to purchase a commemorative brick on the facility, on the third attempt PETA purchased a brick with the phrase "Break Open Your Cold Ones! Toast The Padres! Enjoy This Championship Organization!" (which, in a hidden acrostic, spells out "BOYCOTT PETCO"). The team elected to leave the brick.
