Saskatoon is the largest city in the Canadian Province of Saskatchewan. The population in 2016 was 246,376 (up 10.6% from 2011).[1] The name Saskatoon comes from the Cree inanimate noun "misâskwatômina," which refers to a sweet, violet-colored berry that grows in the area. Former Canadian Prime Minister, John Diefenbaker lived in Saskatoon but later moved to Prince Albert.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation also serves Saskatoon in English and French via rebroadcasts of its radio and TV stations in Regina and Winnipeg. It previously had a CBC Television station, CBKST, which served as a semi-satellite of CBKT in Regina, but CBKST ceased operations in 2012 due to budget cuts by the CBC.
