1. A Saxon was a member of a Germanic tribe living on the North Sea coastline of Germany which in the 5th and 6th centuries AD migrated to what later became southern England. They are often also known as 'Anglo-Saxons', as the migration involved three peoples: the Angles, who originated in Schleswig-Holstein in Germany/Denmark, and who settled in what is now northern England and southern Scotland; the Saxons; and the Jutes, from Jutland in modern Denmark, who settled on the south coast of Britain, principally on the Isle of Wight.

2. A Saxon is a modern-day German from the Saxony region (Sachsen).
