A sermon is a speech given during a worship service by the pastor, priest, minister, deacon, or other church leader. The sermon may be about the meaning of a particular portion of scripture read during the service, commentary and lessons about a specific topic, or it could be a more general exhortation to the congregation on how to conduct one's life. A sermon may, in some churches, conclude with a call for members of the congregation to receive salvation or repent of their sins, or it may conclude with a summary or a final point.

The Sermon on the Mount is the common name given to a sermon delivered by Jesus of Nazareth as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew 5-7. The sermon (The longest single passage in the Bible containing only the words of Jesus.) more clearly articulates his most significant moral teachings and duties than anywhere else in the Bible. Many Christians consider the Sermon on the Mount to be one of the greatest messages ever delivered to mankind.
